Parent of 4 adults, adoptive parent, grandparent, poet/writer all of my life, I have always been known as a “Possibilities Person”. I have raised a multi-racial family and have been involved in promoting and fighting for human and civil rights since my youth
Also proud former mom to two Scotties, Charlotte and Danny, recently mourning the loss of Danny Boy. Current mom to furry girl Emily Macmischief
I was one of a committee of child advocates who authored legislation to facilitate home finding for hard to place children in the state system in my state of residence.
I helped provide support, equipment and funds to several women’s and children’s assistance projects in Asia and Central America, in order to teach young girls crafts to sustain themselves and their families. I was an active member of several groups whose mission was the empowerment of women, including an organization for women in the arts. I served as a board member of community organizations with a focus on children and adolescents, and facilitated a poetry therapy group for senior citizens. I was chosen to sit on a local board of citizens to establish criteria for the hiring of police officers for my community, and sat on the committee to interview and select said officers
I am someone with strong survival skills, who has successfully moved through various difficult and also interesting life experiences. These included illnesses and deaths of many family members, young widowhood, single parenting, remarriage, caretaking, and various life transitions. My life coaching niches reflect my experiences, training and expertise. My personalized approach and compassion for others are qualities for which I have been known in my long career working with adoptive families. I carry this over into my coaching practice. Helping people live happier, more productive lives in a practical but deeply caring way is very important and fulfilling to me professionally
My background includes studies in psychology, sociology, social anthropology, English, and drama. Areas of special interest other than child welfare are relationships (losing, finding and improving), aiding those dealing with chronic illness, women’s issues, grief work, (human and pet loss) career changes, creative parenting, education and special education, gifted youngsters, world literature, health, aging gracefully, geriatric issues, spirituality, and multi-culturalism.
